My root vegetables haven't frozen that I know of, but I'm playing it by ear here. I keep them in a box on my enclosed porch which has no insulation, so I bet it's close to or below freezing out there.
I think I'd better do some research on root cellaring, huh?

I am trying to use up what is in my pantry and freezer too. Makes for some creative menus toward the end of the month.

I inventoried my deep freeze once. That was a while ago; the inventory sheet taped to the top of the freezer is hopelessly out of date now.

Right now, I'm trying to use up what's in there, preperatory to hopefully moving soon. Some weeks I do a good job of this; other weeks (like this one, ooops) I forget all about that and go grocery shopping as if it weren't there. *sigh* We're working on it.

I love the idea of using a plastic storage bin as a root cellar. Have you ever had your root vegetables freeze? Is there a temperature below which you would bring the bin in to avoid getting frozen veggies?

I found the solution to making it hold together. 2 eggs instead of one solved the problem nicely!
